Falling out of cars

Jeff Noon, 13/4/2005-17/4/2005 , 345 pages, 7/10.
Surreal imagery and unbounded imagination. A book thats full of sensory detail. Its about a world where reality is diseased(deceased?) and you cant trust your eyes or ears any more. People need doses of LSD(Lucy) just to stay sane in the haze that clouds perception. This is the kind of book I love reading. Rambling, colourful and not necessarily sensible.
I wish I could write like Jeff Noon. Maybe I can. Maybe I will.

Space

Stephen Baxter, 8/4/2005-12/4/2005, 454 pages, 5/10.
The book starts off well, great scifi that makes you think like good scifi should. It loses steam in the second half, which is why its got only a 5/10 rating. But its still an ok read for the ideas. The problem is that the plot is too long winded. Drags a bit.

The left hand of Darkness

Ursula K Le Guin, 5/4/2005-7/4/2005, 248 pages, 8/10.
Ursula has invented not just a new world, but a new people. Very imaginative, with great prose. Micheal Moorcock says 'As profuse and original in invention as LOTR'. I cant really add to that.

The Gospel according to Ben Elton

Ben Elton, 20/3/2005-26/3/2005, 709 pages, 7/10.
This is actually a double feature. The first has you doubling over with laughter while the second one makes you sit up straight. The second one is a grisly twisted story, not funny at all. If you think the second part is funny, tell me. I'll call the cops.

Behold the Man

Micheal Moorcock, 18/3/2005-20/3/2005, 123 pages, 6/10.
Great fantasy writer. I love his 'The Eternal Champion' series, if youre wondering why I sometimes call myself Elric of Melnibone. If you havent heard me use that name before, you have now. This particular book has a scifi fantasy alternate-reality theme. About the origin of Christianity. Intriguing.

Inconceivable

Ben Elton, 12/3/2005-16/3/2005, 365 pages, 8/10.
This book put him among my favourite comic writers. This book covers a sensitive topic in a very sensitive but hilarious way(yes its possible). Not just once did I have to bury my face in my pillow to keep from laughing loud. Girls everywhere should read this book to gain an insight into the male psyche. The book's format is unique- diary entries from the couple's diaries.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Richard Bach, 10/2/2005-10/2/2005, about 50 pages, 9/10.
This is a book I can feel. Guaranteed to change your life.

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrel

Susanna Clarke, 12/2/2005-2/3/2005, 782 pages, 7/10.
Great book. I like stuff with lore and magic. This is about two magicians who bring about the revival of magic in Britain. One is a brave maverick and the other is a recluse(till he is forced out into the open). I really like the book, especially the part about the power of madness. I somehow identify with the first magician.

Legends of the Land Book 2 - The Iron Chain

Steve Cockayne, 8/2/2005-12/2/2005, 486 pages, 4/10.
Cocky :P. Actually a little wierd, one of the characters is a strange obsessive guy with a persecution/inferiority complex. Set in an ancient, slightly magicalish land.

Rama Revealed

Arthur C Clarke and Gentry Lee, 5/2/2005-7/2/2005, 477 pages, 6/10.
Not too bad, but I wouldnt call it an Arthur C Clarke classic.

Under Construction

Nothing interesting here. Just a list of books Ive read or am reading, with statistics, rating and a one line review(thats almost and oxymoron, and not a very smart one either.). For my own reference only, but youre welcome here anyway.
